Michael Harrington was an American author, sociologist, political activist, and social philosopher. He was a leading figure in the New Left political movement of the 1960s. Harrington was also an important contributor to the development of the field of urban studies. Though his professional career was cut short by illness, he is currently considered one of the most influential thinkers in both sociology and educational policy.
